Tuesday, March 2, 2021

No! Not at all… Each chiropractic adjustment is unique in its own way. Some techniques are better suited for a certain age group. However, these adjustments can be utilized to achieve the same result- which is to restore normal joint function and biometrics to the spine. So, what is a chiropractic adjustment, and what are the different techniques used? Well, read on to explore them.

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment, also known as chiropractic manipulation or spinal manipulation is a procedure in which a  Los Gatos chiropractor applies manipulation to the vertebrae that fail to function normally or have abnormal movement patterns.  The main aim of chiropractic adjustment is to improve motion and the body’s physical function.

Chiropractic adjustments can only be performed by qualified chiropractors. Patients generally get chiropractic care depending on their needs. Before a patient receives chiropractic corrective care, test and exams are performed followed by a series of x-rays to help guide the chiropractor to the areas of the spinal problem. Your doctor may suggest you seek chiropractic adjustment if you have low back pain, headaches, neck pain.

Chiropractic adjustment techniques

There are several different chiropractic adjustment techniques that chiropractors can utilize to help improve your motion and your body’s physical function. There are a particular skill level and “art” involved with high velocity, manipulation, or low amplitude adjustment. It is also crucial for the chiropractor to determine when not to apply the adjustment.

Here are some of the most common chiropractic adjustment techniques used by chiropractors:

1.   Direct thrust technique

This method, also popularly known as a diversified technique is one of the oldest and most commonly used methods. In this method, the chiropractors use their hands to apply a speedy thrust or impulse in order to align the spine.

This technique helps to increase the range of motion caused by misaligned bones or joints. However, it is worth mentioning that this technique is riskier compared to other techniques due to the high-velocity-force applied.

2.   Gonstead Adjustment technique

The Gonstead adjustment is also one of the most commonly used techniques. It is also a hands-on technique that involves analyzing the spinal region thoroughly and realigning the spine to reduce pain and inflammation in the areas affected.

3.   Activator technique

In the Activator technique, the chiropractor uses a small handheld spring-loaded device known as an activator that delivers a bit of impulse to the patient’s spine. This technique can effectively help to adjust the tone of your nervous system.

4.   Drop technique

The Drop technique, also known as the Thompson technique involves specialized treatment tables that have drop mechanism to help facilitate joint movement. Drop technique can sometimes be used in place of or along with direct thrust technique. While this technique may seem quite frightening, the chiropractic experience can be very comfortable due to the subtle dropping motion, which feels like a vibration.

Final words

Chiropractic adjustments are effective in treating low back pain, neck pain, and headaches. Understanding the different techniques used in chiropractic adjustment is crucial.
