5 Symptoms of Hormonal Imbalance in Women

Saturday, November 28, 2020

Did you know that around 80 percent of all women suffer from some sort of hormonal irregularity? Many of these affected women aren't even aware that they're dealing with symptoms caused by hormonal imbalance, which only delays their treatment and prolongs their conditions.

Hormonal imbalances in women can cause a variety of unwanted symptoms ranging from weight gain, fatigue, and even mood swings. An imbalance can also result in more serious conditions like severe pelvic pain and uterine fibroids.

Are you living with a hormonal imbalance you're unaware of? Here are the 5 most common symptoms of hormonal imbalance in women. Keep on reading!

1. Irregular Periods

Unusually heavy or irregular periods could be a sign of hormonal imbalance in women. The average period typically ranges from 21-35 days, so if your period occurs outside of this window then you may be dealing with a hormonal irregularity.

However, menstrual cycle irregularity could be a symptom of other conditions. If your period is a little out of wack, make sure to make an appointment with your OB/GYN so you can get to the bottom of it.

2. Mood Swings

As a woman, your hormones actually play a huge role in your mood and emotions. Estrogen, which is the female sex hormone, impacts the neurotransmitters in the brain and can fluctuate serotonin levels, and when there's an imbalance, women can experience powerful mood swings.

3. Weight Gain

Persistent weight gain or difficulty trying to lose weight is another unwanted symptom of hormonal imbalance.

One hormonal condition that could be the cause of your weight gain could be an underactive thyroid. This means that your thyroid isn't producing enough hormones to regulate metabolism, leading to weight gain.

Even if women are active and live a healthy lifestyle, they could face continuous weight gain if their hormones are irregular.

4. Pelvic Pain

Pelvic pain that occurs during your period or during intercourse could be a sign of a hormonal imbalance.

Hormonal imbalances in women can cause a variety of issues that lead to pain in the pelvic region. From endometriosis to fibroids and ovarian cysts, it's always a good idea to speak with your doctor if you're experiencing pelvic pain.

5. Fatigue

There may be an underlying cause for your excess fatigue. When your hormones are out of wack, your brain interacts with your thyroid in a different way, causing you to have low energy and fatigue.

Fatigue is also linked to depression, so it's important to get ahead of your hormonal imbalance before you're stuck dealing with all of the symptoms.

Know These Symptoms of Hormonal Imbalance

Many women who experience these symptoms are living with a hormonal irregularity that they aren't aware of. Talk with your doctor if you're experiencing any of these symptoms of hormonal imbalance to see how you can get your life back!
