Key Differences Between CBD and THC - What Do You Need To Know?

Tuesday, September 8, 2020

There are hundreds of cannabinoids that can be extracted from cannabis plants like hemp and marijuana. And since cannabis use these days are becoming popular, you need to know that not all of them are created the same. They contain cannabinoids with different effects on the body. Two of the most popular ones are cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

These two are the most popular ones out there so you need to choose which is better for you. But they are known to have different effects on the human body. So before you start using them, read this article beforehand. This can help you identify the differences between CBD and THC.

Differentiate CBD from THC

Even though CBD and THC are completely different, many people are still not aware of their differences. Both of them are available in various forms like oils, capsules, edibles, and tinctures. CBD can be sourced on cannabis plants. What they have in common is that they both react with the endocannabinoid system or ECS of the human body. But their difference depends on how they interact with the ECS. To dig a bit deeper, here are the differences between CBD and THC:

Chemical Structure. When it comes to the chemical structure, the CBD and THC have similarities since they have the same molecular structure. Despite that, they have differences on how the atoms are arranged. This is why they have different effects on the ECS.

Psychoactive Effects. One of the misconceptions is that both CBD and THC have the same psychoactive effects because of their similar structures. Little did they know that THC is psychoactive while CBD is not. With THC, you will experience the effect called ‘high’ which you will not feel with CBD no matter how much you take of the product.

Side Effects. Aside from the ‘high,’ using THC can have side effects which includes increased heart rate, extreme hunger, memory loss, dry mouth, and more. But this only happens when you consume THC in larger quantities than what your body can allow. CBD on the other hand is proven by many users to not induce any side effects similar to THC.

Legalities. The use of cannabis both for recreational and medicinal purposes have been widely accepted. If you can purchase cannabis for recreational use, then there is a good chance that you can also have legal access to CBD products. Still, it is best that you find out what your state laws say with regards to CBD and THC products before you start purchasing them.

Both CBD and THC have medical benefits. That is why for centuries, cannabis has been used not only for recreational but also for medical purposes. So whatever is your purpose in using cannabis products, whether recreational or medicinal, it is important that you know the difference between CBD and THC and find excellent CBD resource online. Know your CBD product and talk to your doctor before you start using them, especially if you have pre-existing medical conditions.
