Fun

maintaining a healthy smile. Get involved today!
It’s
National Smile Month in the UK, as the Oral Health Foundation is running a
campaign to champion the benefits of having a beaming, healthy smile. From the
18th May to the 18thJune,2020, the charity invites you to
contribute and make a difference to millions of people by spreading the word
about positive oral health.
Why Support National
Smile Month?
Oral
health is an important component of a person’s overall wellbeing. When you have
healthy teeth, you’ll be less prone to other infections or medical disorders,
which is why it’s so important to look after your teeth.
Maintaining
a healthy smile can be simple if you commit to brushing your teeth twice a day,
and visiting your dentist for regular check-ups and treatment where necessary. Yet,
inequalities still exist which prevent people from accessing the care they
need. By supporting National Smile Month, you’ll be making a fantastic
contribution by spreading the word about oral health within your community.
Looking After Your Own
Teeth
As
part of National Smile Month, the Oral Health Foundation is delivering key
advice on how to look after your teeth. This includes brushing your teeth twice
a day using a fluoride toothpaste and committing to using dental floss and
mouthwash as part of your daily routine. An Invisalign Essex
team explains that realignment treatment can also be essential in correcting
any problems with wonky teeth and can help transform your smile into a beamer.
Diet and Your Teeth
What
you choose to eat and drink has an incredible impact on the condition of your
teeth, with sugar playing a defining role in your dental health. Use National
Smile Month to try and cut down on the volume of sugar you eat, along with how
frequently you consume it. Sugar is known to react with the plaque on your
teeth, which can be a major cause of tooth decay. By choosing a diet rich in
fruit, vegetables and other vitamin-rich foods, instead of processed,
sugar-laden treats, you’ll be moving away from the possibility of gum disease.
Bad breath and eventual tooth loss are some of the side effects of gum disease,
highlighting exactly why you need to ditch the sugar to focus on positive oral
health.
Taking Part In National
Smile Month
There
are plenty of fantastic smile activities to take part in this month, and
lockdown doesn’t need to halt any plans. By getting involved, and spreading the
word on social media, you’ll be doing plenty to raise awareness of good oral
health within your community.
You
might choose to join the Smiley Singalong where you blast out any of your
favourite songs so long as they include the word ‘smile’ in the title.
You
could also swap out sugar from your diet this month and share your results on
social media, using hashtags #Sugarswap and #Smilemonth to stay involved.
Finally,
the Oral Health Foundation wants to collect smiles from around the world. You
can simply take a photo of your smile to upload to your preferred social media
platform, accompanied by your message card.
