Best Erectile Dysfunction Treatment Drugs

Thursday, July 18, 2019

Around twenty million men in US experience erectile dysfunction (ED). Interestingly though, while it is thought that old or middle-aged men experience erectile dysfunction, but in reality about one-fourth of all the men below the age of 40 years’ experience erectile dysfunction.

Luckily, some medications are available now that can treat erectile dysfunction.

The most common drugs to treat erectile dysfunction remain sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis) and vardenafil (Levitra). Launched in the 1990s and early 2000s, these are known as the first generation of erectile dysfunction treatment drugs.

However, now the market also offers the second generation of ED treatment drugs like stendra or avanafil, which is thought to have a lower number of negative impacts in comparison to the first generation of medications.

However, all these drugs work on the same principle – they enhance the flow of blood to the penis and eliminate difficulties in achieving an erection. The key differences in these medications range from longer or shorter half-life up to the difference in side effects. So, don’t buy medications without consultation.

Sildenafil (Viagra)

Sildenafil increases the flow of blood to the penis’s spongy erectile tissues, helping your penis develop a strong erection. Sildenafil starts its action in around 25 to 50 minutes of its consumption and depending largely on the severity of the erectile dysfunction, it lasts for two to six hours. Sildenafil can be taken before or after food, however, consuming the medicine after a portion of food can reduce its effectiveness.

Tadalafil (Cialis)

Though tadalafil offers effects that are similar to sildenafil, it lasts comparatively longer. It is considered the longest lasting erectile dysfunction drug since it has a half-life of 17.5 hours and stays active for as much as 35 hours. To put it in perspective, to get similar results from sildenafil, you’ll need to consume multiple tablets of sildenafil for at least two consecutive days. This is, in fact, the key edge of tadalafil over others that one dose of the medicine lasts for almost a whole week ending the need of taking a tablet before each session of sexual activity. Tadalafil can be taken before or after the meal and start its action in less than 30 minutes.

Vardenafil (Levitra)

Vardenafil lasts longer than sildenafil, providing its effects for as much as seven hours, and after that, the medicine remains active within the human body, yet cannot offer a strong erection.

To sum things up, vardenafil is a middle option – it is a choice for those men who are looking for a drug that lasts longer than sildenafil, yet don’t want an active penis for 36+ hours that are provided by tadalafil.

Avanafil (Stendra)

Avanafil is the most famous second-generation drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Just like other erectile dysfunction medications, tadalafil is a PDE5 inhibitor, which means it enhances the flow of blood to a patient’s penis and helps make an erection easier.

However, in contrasts to first-generation medicines, avanafil is quite selective in targeting the tissues. This means that it will have much fewer side effects.

Avanafil is also more fast-acting than others, causing an erection in most men in around 10 minutes of consumption. Mostly, avanafil remains functional for around six hours.
