Accidents do happen. Many women have tried to prevent pregnancy but still, they fail. It is the job of emergency contraceptives to work with this. These are products that are not only safe but are effective as well.3

When talking about contraceptives, the morning after pill Malaysia is listed at the top. Emergency contraception, or which is known as the morning after pill, is used after intercourse to prevent pregnancy. These are similar hormones with your regular oral contraceptive pills. They do a comparable thing and that is to lessen the chances of pregnancy.

When it comes to intercourse, women need to be responsible with it. This is why this article is here to help you understand what the morning after pill is and how it helps in the prevention of pregnancy.

The Two Types of These Pills

The Morning after Pill is in two types. Each has a various level of effectiveness. These types are:
  • ellaOne -EllaOne, which contains Ulipristal Acetate, is in 30 mg. This is the most effective morning after pill which can be used for 5 days every after unprotected intercourse. Using ellaOne also offers side effects, especially when not following the recommended intake. Side effects pointed to this pill are headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and irregular bleeding.
  • Levonelle-Levonelle may not be effective as to ellaOne but some women prefer to use it. This is because it is free to use for immediate or future purposes. The pill which obtains Levonorgestrel should be taken within 3 days of unprotected intercourse. Though it is efficient in the prevention of pregnancy, still, when not used properly, side effects are experienced. Side effects connected with this pill are nausea, vomiting, headache, lethargy, and tender breasts.
How These Pills Work

The Morning after Pill works by either delaying or preventing ovulation. As for ellaOne, it acquires sulipristal acetate which hinders the progesterone from working normally, thus, delaying the release of the egg from the ovary. When it comes to Levonelle, this acquires levonorgestrel which is a synthetic version of progesterone. What it does is it affects the woman’s ability to ovulate, thus, preventing pregnancy.

The Effectiveness of These Pills

The Morning after Pill works around 85% but that should always be associated with timing. When timing is right, that is when the pills work marvelously. It is more effective to have these pills taken within 24 hours in time, but having it within 3 days right after intercourse is helpful as well.

When it comes to how these pills work for you, two things are highlighted here: One is through your cycle’s point when you had intercourse as when being close to your ovulation makes the pill less effective. And the other one is how soon you had taken the pill after having intercourse

Summary

The Morning after Pill works fantastically in preventing pregnancy but it is vital to take it as soon as possible right after having intercourse. A man’s sperm can actually live around five days in a woman’s body and these pills can help in declining the sperm.

However, it is vital to understand how these pills work and what product should be taken as they are in two different kinds. Though there are individuals who are quite confused in using emergency contraceptive pills, it is best to talk to the doctor who is an expert in the product.
